Breaking: COVID-19; Gov Lalong orders total lockdown effective Thursday 9th April across 17 LGAs for Fumigation

As part of measures to stem the spread of the dreaded Corona Virus in Plateau State, in line with the efforts of the Federal Government, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt Hon Barr Simon Bako Lalong has revealed that effective Thursday 9th April 2020, there will be a total lockdown and restriction of Movement within the state to enable government fumigate streets.

This was revealed during his media briefing on the progress recorded on the fight against the spread of COVID-19 in the state, which took place in Jos the Plateau State Capital on Monday 6th April 2020.

In assessing the progress so far the Governor expressed that

“Based on further developments, we announced the closure of all border routes to the State, which took effect from 29th March 2020 to further strengthen the capacity of our health officials to concentrate on the situation within the State”.

He affirmed that “Monitoring and Enforcement is still going on and we are recording substantial compliance. However, the few cases of disregard for the order are being handled by the security agencies”.

In a twist to the progress he went on to announce that “With all these, Government has concluded plans to carry out a State-wide fumigation exercise which will cover Jos-Bukuru Metropolis and all the 17 Local Governments Areas of the State”.

The Governor directed that “To this effect, I am directing a total lockdown, effective 12 midnight of Thursday 9th April 2020 to 11pm of Wednesday 15th April 2020”. Stressing that “During this period, there will be no movement of any kind except for staff on essential duty. These include:
Security Agencies; Medical and Health workers; Power and Energy Staff; Fire Service; Media; Telecom Operators; Fuel Tankers”.

The general public is hereby advised to take proper note of the total lockdown starting 12 Midnight of Thursday 9th April, 2020 and to end Wednesday 15th April 2020.

  4. If all measures will be taking strictly on boarder closure then I don’t see any need of total lock down because we haven’t record single case on the plateau. I suggest we give more attention on our boarders for only those coming into the state can give us problem. Let daily activities carry on shit while the securities remain intact. My take
