A group known as the INTERFAITH YOUTH CONGRESS OF NIGERIA (IYCN) has hailed led the efforts of government at all levels in the fight against COVID-19. This position was contained in a statement signed by the National Coordinator, Comrade Hadassah Wealth.
The Statement expressed gratitude to government thus “We, the Interfaith youths of Interfaith Youth Congress of Nigeria IYCN commend the Federal Government and States government of Nigeria on their swift and prompt response in curbing the spread of Corona virus in the country”.
National Coordinator IYCN, Comrade Hadassah went on to urge the Federal and State Governments to “…look inward for solution to these Pandemic by sponsoring and monitoring human capacity in the health industry to do research and come us with reliable test kits and vaccines for this virus instead of following China, WHO and other developed countries without adapting their remedies and methods to suit our internal conditions”.
She encouraged the Federal Government to explore the Herbal Industry which according her “…has over time claimed to have cure for lots of diseases”. She stressed “…that with proper funding and promotion, the herbal industry will come up with herbal remedies for this virus ravaging us”.
She identified that considering the recent plunge in the global price of crude oil in the international market in which Nigeria is majored on, she advised “…the Federal and States governments to focus more on human capacity development as there are reservoir of untapped ideas in Nigerians waiting to be explored”.
She asked government to
“Promote and sponsor our health industry, agricultural and mining industry amongst others to preserve and uphold our economy and save our nation from going into another recession after this pandemic is over”.
She also urged “…the Federal and States government and those in decision making offices to without fear or favour put measures in place to ensure the country is restored back to a better life after this Pandemic”.
According to the statement, the National Coordinator called “…on all arms of our government and well meaning Nigerians to intensify and increase support for the ordinary Nigerians who require aid during this period of lockdown as hunger is killing ordinary Nigerians than the virus itself”.
The group used the medium “…to appreciate all Nigerians, Religious bodies, Security agencies Medical personnel and all those that have put their lives on line for humanity at this trying time”, and thereafter called on “…all Muslim faithfuls to use this holy month of Ramadan to pray for Nigeria and the World at large”.
The group appealed “…to all Nigerian Youths to use this period of lockdown as an opportunity to plan for a greater future and shun all violent behavior, detrimental to humanity as Nigeria and Nigerians have been undergoing phases of distress in times past”.
They also pleaded “…with all Nigerians to keep adhering to the directives given by the federal and state governments to curb the virus, not minding the hardship until we are able to exterminate the virus totally from the shores of this our dear country”.
