The Challenge Initiative (TCI) in collaboration with Development Communications Network (Devcomm) have at the instance of the Plateau State Ministry of Health trained TV/Radio, Print Journalists, Bloggers and information officers on from selected Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on effective coverage and reportage of Family Planning and Reproductive Health in Plateau State. The training which held at Crispan Hotels between Monday 22nd to Wednesday 24th November 2020 saw in attendance selected journalists and bloggers from different mediums.

The three-day training which held from 8am to 5pm also included filed trips to the Bukuru Central and Bukuru Express Primary Health Care Centers where trainees had the opportunity of getting first hand, on going family planning and reproductive health programs.

They also had the privilege of interacting with clients and service provides on the challenges and successes of on-going family planning programs. The trainees toured the Family Planning Unit at the Bukuru Central PHC which was renovated by TCI and commissioned by the Wife the Executive Governor of Plateau Mrs Regina Lalong.


There were group sessions where all trainees were tasked to come up story ideas that promote Child Spacing, Family Planning and Reproductive Health. Journalists shared their experiences and challenges in reproductive health reportage and are expected to consolidate on the knowledge gained after the three (3) days of intensive training.

High points of the training on the final day include the presentation of certificates to participants. Unlike other trainings, this particular training saw the establishment of a structure led by the trainees in order to champion the promotion of Family Planning Reproductive Health reportage going forward.
