All is set for the long awaited Zonal Conventions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in some zones. It will be recalled that the National Working Committee of the party had suspended Zonal Conventions for some Geopolitical zones as a result of unresolved issues regarding some state congresses in the zone. The Zones affected are North Central, South South and South West.
Already, North West, North East and South East had successfully conducted their zonal conventions. While the rescheduled South South Zonal Convention held on Thursday 9th April 2021 in Port Harcourt.
Following interventions by the NWC, the South West Zonal Convention is scheduled to hold in Oshogbo, the Osun State Capital, with screening of contestants scheduled to begin within days, while that of North Central Convention hold in Makurdi.
States such as Plateau and Niger had some pending issues, which appear to have been resolved. The case of Niger State was peculiar, the botched State Congress had seen disagreements between waring factions, leading to violence.
Already, all contestants for various offices were screened on Thursday April 8th 2021 ahead of the Saturday Date. Today Friday 9th April 2021 was set aside for arrival of delegates from the Six (6) States of the Zone and the FCT.
