Nigerian Doctors laud Gov Lalong over commitment to development, Urge Doctors at the 2021 NMA AGM to take advantage of the opportunity

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has recognized the efforts of His Excellency, Gov Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State for his commitment to the development of the state, most especially his efforts in the health sector. This position was made known in an address by the National President of NMA, Prof Innocent Ujah during the ongoing NMA Annual General Meeting (AGM). The week-long event which kick started with a medical outreach at the Nigerian Correctional Service Facility in Jos, had it’s official opening ceremony on Thursday afternoon at the New CRISPAN Hotel along Rayfield Road.

Prof Ujah lauded the efforts of Gov Lalong in his attempt to sustain peaceful coexistence in the state, stressing that the Governor’s acceptance for the 2021 NMA AMG to hold in Plateau State was a testament that peace had truly returned to Jos.

Prof Ujah considered the theme of the 2021 AGM “NIGERIA AND THE GLOBAL HEALTH AGENDA 2030” as timely considering the global health challenge occasion by the novel corona virus (COVID-19). He noted that “oceans and walls no longer protect us”, stressing the need for the global community to take responsibility for the protection of the world.

Prof Ujah, while counting the losses suffered by the medical community, appreciated the sacrifices made my medical doctors across the Nation. A minute silence was observed in honour of doctors who lost their lives in efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Prof Ujah went further to express confidence in the 2021 NMA AGM conference in Jos to provide Nigerian Doctors the opportunity to analyze the issues affecting the health sector with a view to proffering innovative solutions.

High points of the events were the presentation of addresses by the Chairperson of the event, HE Dame Pauline Tallen, the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs. A key note lecture by Prof Isaac Oyewole. Also, as the host Governor, HE Gov Simon Bako Lalong was happy with the successful convergence, stressing that the conference was a testament of the peace efforts by his administration.
