The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Plateau State Branch has called on members of the press to ensure they present balanced reports of events going forward. In a statement signed by Dr Innocent Emmanuel and Dr Bapiga’an William Audu, Chairman and Secretary respectively, the association decried the security situation in Plateau State, following series of attacks on unarmed innocent citizens. They urged government and security agencies to live up to expectations and be seen to be just while calling for calm among citizens. They urged citizens to follow lawful means in seeking redress for perceived injustices.
While address media reports emanating the NMA stressed thus “We particularly call also on members of the press to be more circumspect and balanced in their reportage of events; looking for means to unite the people to confront headlong, this hydra headed monster that has turned our dear state and nation into a large killing field, rather than seeking avenues to perpetrate propaganda of any sort that widens the already existent chasm amongst the different peoples that comprise our society”.
Urging that diversity should be harnessed for the common good of all. and not be an albatross to Nigeria’s development.

The unfortunate incident sparked palpable tension in Jos, the Plateau State Capital leading to the reimposition of 24 hours Curfew in Jos North.
