Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has said that those propagating inciting messages and suggesting reprisals do so from outside Plateau will soon be arrested. Gov Lalong disclosed this while addressing The Nigeria Inter Religious Council (NIREC) Stakeholders Meeting in Abuja, on Thursday 26th August 2021.
Governor Lalong while lamenting the recent attacks on the Plateau pointed out the role of external forces in exacerbating the situation by inciting reprisals. In his own words, Gov Lalong stressed that “Unfortunately, we have seen that some of those propagating inciting messages and fanning toxic ideas are people outside our State. They sit far away with little or no knowledge of what is happening to push out narratives that further escalate the situation and embolden criminals. These kinds of people must be fished out and made to face the law.“
He further revealed that government has “…mandated the security agencies to ensure they go after them.” Gov Lalong reiterated that crime has no religion, tribe or ethnicity. Stressing that evidence has shown that criminals unite across these lines to plan and execute their evil plans.
Plateau State was thrown into another round of mourning when over 35 people were killed in cold blood in Yelwa Zangam community in Jos North LGA. There was palpable tension in Jos which forced the government to reinstate a 24 hour curfew in Jos North LGA.
