The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly Rt Hon Ayuba Abok has cleared the air a reported planned impeachment of Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State. In an interaction with Journalists on Wednesday in Jos, the Speaker revealed that there was no plan by members of the Plateau State House of Assembly to impeach Gov Lalong, sighting constitutional provisions that prescribed processes to be followed in impeaching a Governor.
The Rt Hon Ayuba Abok told Journalists that the position of members of the Plateau State House of Assembly which demanded that the Governor visits attacked communities and provide relief materials among other sundry issues was informed by the continuous killings and destruction of farms in the State. Stressing that Governor Simon Lalong has already began implementing some.
On the issue of the vote of confidence passed on the Governor by the All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Plateau State on Tuesday, the Speaker noted that the Majority Leader of the Plateau State House of Assembly Hon Naanlong was done on the request of the party, hence it was done on behalf of the APC Plateau State and not on behalf of the Plateau State House of Assembly. He noted that if a vote of confidence is to be passed by the Plateau State House of Assembly, it will be done in the chambers of the Plateau State House of Assembly and not elsewhere, stressing that the House of Assembly as an institution was not involved.
