The Local Government Congresses in Plateau State held across the 17 Local Government Areas of the State. Consensus was the method adopted in most LGAs in selecting those to pilot the affairs of the party at the various LGAs, while contests held in few LGAs.
In Jos North LGA, it was all smile as APC stakeholders, elected and appointed office Holder trooped into the Local Government Secretariat in solidarity with their party. Speaking to journalists just before the commencement of the day’s event, Management Committee Chairman of Jos North LGA Hon Shehu Bala expressed satisfaction with the decision of the party to go by consensus.
He noted that though not all who set out to contest would occupy the same office at a given time. He noted that he has held series of meetings with stakeholders of the party in the Local Government in order to pacify members, urging them to align with the party’s directive in the State.
Hon Shehu Bala pointed out that all ethnic nationalities were carried along in the consensus and all those who would have contested against those who emerged have agreed to work together in the interest of the unity of the party. Alhaji Sani Gangare who was the caretaker chairman of the party in the LGA was returned unopposed to serve as chairman of the party in Jos North LGA.
The story was the same in Jos South LGA. Speaking to journalists at the old Secretariat in Bukuru, Hon Ayuba Jagaba Pam the running mate of the APC Flag bearer in the forthcoming Local Government Elections, Hon Gideon Dandereng told journalists that consensus was the order of the day. According to him what took place was an affirmation of what they had agreed on, he expressed joy over the outcome which he described as peaceful and successful. Hon Dalyop Pam was returned unopposed as the Chairman of the APC in Jos South LGA.
In B/Ladi LGA, the story was different as consensus seems not to have been agreed upon by party stalwarts and stakeholders. There was heavy security presence at the Local Government Secretariat with delegates in hundreds were seen thronging towards the entrance to the venue waiting to cast their votes for their predated candidates.
Speaking to journalists, a physically excited Management Committee Chairman of B/Ladi LGA Hon Jok Alamba told journalists that the delegates were calm and those responsible for the electioneering process were doing a great job. He stressed that the process was peaceful and the outcome is expected to be received peacefully as well.
At the end of the elections Hon Stephen Haruna was declared winner and returned as the Chairman of the APC in B/Ladi LGA with 252, defeating his opponent Hon Timothy Choji Kim who scored 118 votes.
