High Level Women Advocates set to Celebrate International Peace Day with call for Healing & Peace in Plateau State, to crown First Lady as Peace Ambassador

The United Nations General Assembly has urged Nations and Communities to devote this day to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of nonviolence and cease-fire in commemoration of the International Peace Day which is celebrated on the 21st of September every year.

In commemoration of the 2021 International Peace Day, a group by the name ‘High Level Women Advocates (HILWA) has stressed the need for healing and Peace in Plateau State. In a statement issued by the Chairperson of HILWA, Mrs Felicia G. Yakzum, ahead of the 2021 International Peace Day, the group pointed out that the date reawakens the global community on the news to reflect on peace, stressing that for plateau state, the date resonates as the events of the recent past demand all seek for “…Healing and Peace to reign in the Land”.

According to the group, there is no doubt that Plateau State has has its fair share of conflicts which have claimed lives and property, calling attention for the acknowledgement of the proactiveness of the Plateau State Government for adopting measures through the Plateau State Peace Building Agency in building bridges of peace across communities in the State.

The group noted the personal dedication and commitment of the Plateau State First Lady Mrs Regina Lalong (who is the Founder of the SWITCH Foundation) for her foresight in initiating the ” SILICON VALLEY “, which according to them will open up areas of comparative advantage when it takes off in Plateau State, stressing that it will offer opportunities for our teaming youths to meaningfully and constructively engage themselves in productive ventures.

In championing the cause of women and children, the group called for support in the advancement of women in society through political and economic initiatives, actively oppose violence against and girls, promote the elimination of discrimination in communities and work place.

The group informed that as part of activities marking the International Day of Peace, the group will be reaching out to communities, women organizations, and above all, will be crowning the Plateau State First Lady and Founder SWITCH Foundation, Mrs Regina Lalong as the PEACE AMBASSADOR of Plateau State.
