A Coalition of AFIZERE, ANAGUTA & BEROM YOUTHS (AFIANABER) in Jos North LGA has berated a reported endorsement of Hon Shehu Bala for the position of Chairman Jos North LGA under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which was reported to have emanated from a coalition of ethnic nationalities in Jos North.
The group which was comprised of the Afizere Youth Movement (led by Comrade Joseph Arin), Anaguta Youth Movement (led by Moses Dawang) and Berom Youth Moulders (Led by Yakubu Dung Pam), took this position while addressing a Press Conference in Jos the Plateau State Capital. The group noted that for the avoidance of doubt, they are nonpartisan and will only follow the wishs and interests of their people.
According to the group the process that saw the emergence of Hon Shehu Bala as the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jos North was not only flawed but not equitable, unfair and not transparent, stressing that members the aforementioned ethnic groups who bought forms to contest in the Local Government Primaries were neither consulted nor carried along in selection of Hon Shehu Bala.
The group wondered why the APC in Jos North was singled out from other LGAs for such a selection process while other LGAs like B/Ladi, Riyom, Bassa and Jos South were allowed to select their candidates in consultation with stakeholders and ethnic nationalities.
The group pointed out that during the build up to the Jos North APC Primaries, the date for the primaries was shifted for a later date, which never came; only for the announcement to emanate that Hon Shehu Bala was declared the candidate of the party in Jos North without proper consultations.
According to the group, attempts to reach out to their political stakeholders in order to table their demands prove abortive, hence they were left with no choice than to address a press conference, calling on His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt Hon Barrister Simon Bako Lalong and all well meaning Elders on the Plateau to as a matter of urgency wade into excesses of some political stakeholders in Jos North LGA who are bent on pursuing their personal interests at the expense of the people and their heritage.
The group used the opportunity to call on the APC to urgently fix a date to conduct a free, fair and credible primary election for their members that purchased forms for the Chairmanship and Councillorship positions to participate in the interest of peace and prevent what has befallen other political parties recently, urging the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) to take note.
The group however expressed optimism that Governor Simon Bako Lalong will give heed to their demands and rescue the situation in the interest of generations yet unborn.
