October 9th LG Polls: Plateau Youth Council calls on Plateau Youths to come out and exercise their civic duties following assurances by Security Agencies and PlASIEC for a hitch-free Polls

The Leadership of the Plateau State Youth Council (PYC) led by Comrade Lot Adas has extended their best wishes to all contestants and voters in the Saturday 9th October 2021. According to a statement signed by the Chairman Comrade Lot Adas, General Secretary Comrade B. B Gaknung and Public Relations Officer Comrade Walshak Kefas, it became very sacrosanct and imperative for council to make this press release in the overall good and interest of the Youths, and the good and peace loving people of Plateau state.

The statement noted that true efforts to sustain the state of peace on the Plateau especially after series of engagements with prominent Youth groups and individuals, particularly as it relates to the forthcoming local government elections in the seventeen local government areas of Plateau state. Following such, the statement stressed that council wishes to state affirmatively that, elections have been confirmed by the electoral umpire (PLASIEC) to hold on Saturday, 9th October, 2021, in the seventeen local government Areas of Plateau State.

The statement stressed that While council shares in the concerns raised by various Youth groups in the state particularly as it relates to security issues in some parts of the state, It is however relieved of those concerns as security agents have given every assurance of tight security as further confirmed by the Executive Governor in his broadcast. Council therefore, in concord with the assurances of tight security by security agents and the government appeal to all Youths to conduct themselves peacefully as they go out to exercise their fundamental rights of voting the candidates of their choices.

The statement noted that While Council is aware of worrying concerns by political parties and individuals who feel certain issues be considered with regards the elections, Council equally applauds the actions of parties and individuals who saw the need to approach the best channels with their grievances and dissatisfactions with the true patriotism of holding to mind, the fragile peace that the state needs to make better by not taking the law into their hands. It is true that the people of Plateau are in the most patriotic efforts in contributing their paths in promoting peace and giving rooms for developments.

The Council therefore, calls on the entire Youths on the Plateau to come out with energy and the hope for the state that democracy must remain alive as they conduct themselves and peacefully partake in the elections by voting for the candidates of their choices and being good ambassadors of democratic norms before, during and after the elections, as well, ensure that anything and everything capable of disrupting the electoral process is tamed in the overall interest of the State and its citizens.

The Leadership noted that Council feels duty bound to equally call on the appropriate quotas who received the grievances of individuals and parties to ensure that, justice is served with every sense of responsibility to give everyone a level playing ground, going forward.
The statement concluded that council wishes to call on the electoral umpire and the security personnel as well, stakeholders with a very strong and resounding voice to ensure that the elections are conducted free, fair, credible and peaceful without fear or favor to/of any individual/Party. While a successful exercise is prayed for, council hopes on the assurances of the Youths to conduct themselves in the best manner, peaceful and law abiding, now and in the future.
