Critical stakeholders and aspirants under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have hailed the peaceful conduct of the October 9th 2021 Local Government Elections across the State. In Jos South LGA, Deputy Chairmanship Candidate of the APC, Hon Ayuba Jagaba hailed the peaceful process and conduct of the LG Polls. He noted that the exclusion of the PDP from the polls is not new, stressing that the worst that any political party could experience happened to the APC in Zamfara State. He used the opportunity to urge all political parties to all internal democracy to flow, operate an open door policy in other to give room to all party members, especially the youths to participate and contributed their quota, noting that the activities and overbearing influence of godfathers has led to many unfortunate endings.
Hon Jagaba pointed out that the fate of the PDP in the polls can be attributed to such influences, stressing that such were the reasons why he left the PDP. He promised to carry everyone along irrespective of religious and political differences to ensure that peace and development come to the people of Jos South LGA. Ag. Chairman of Jos South LGA, Hon Fom Gyang Bandung described the turnout of voters as encouraging, stressing that the people have finally gotten what they had been asking for, a democratically elected executive.
In Riyom LGA, the atmosphere was the same as at 10am. Speaking to Journalists, in the Riyom Local Government capital, Honorable Commissioner for Information, Dan Manjang expressed satisfaction with the process. He hail PLASIEC for ensuring that both sensitive and non-sensitive got to polling units on time. He particularly noted that across the units in Riyom LGA, voters were peaceful, despite voter apathy. He noted that people are enthusiastic about their expectations, stressing that the candidate of the APC, Hon Mafeng Gwollson has performed well as MTC Chairman, hence he has the capacity to performed even more.
On his part the candidate of the APC in Riyom LGA, Hon Mafeng Gwollson noted that the level of voter mobilization at the ward level is impressive. He hailed PLASIEC for living up to expectations. He noted that his administration will focus on consolidating on the security gains of his administration while he served as Management Committee Chairman, guaranteeing that they will make efforts to ensure that farmers go to their farms without being harassed. Secondly, he stressed on their plan to strengthen the economy which has been badly affected by the two decade long conflict had badly affected, stressing that they will make efforts to support those within the non-formal sector in order to support them to achieve their dreams.
In B/Ladi LGA, the story was not different from the previous LGAs. The immediate past Secretary to the Government of Plateau State Hon Rufus Bature who was at his polling unit at Low Cost Wazang, described the process as rancor-free and generally peaceful. He noted that if the candidate of the APC, Hon Jok Alamba emerges, the perception of people that the candidate is old will change, he stressed that Hon Jok is combining the old and the new strategies and ideas in delivering dividends of democracy. He noted further that the people of B/Ladi should expect such from Hon Jok Alamba.
Hon Rufus Bature noted that his ambition to become the next State Chairman of the APC will see him bring in an administration where grassroot sensitization on the perception of people about the APC is changed. He noted that he intends to bring reconciliation and an open door policy will be pursued if given the chance to serve as State Chairman.
In mangu, the story was the same, despite voter apathy, stakeholders have described the process as peace. Speaking to Journalists in Mangu after casting his vote, Chief Ayuba Burki Gwafan pointed that the apathy can be attributed to the exclusion of the main opposition PDP, stressing that it was unfortunate that the internal problems of the PDP led to their unfortunate exclusion. He noted that the exclusion of the opposition even though self inflicted was not good for democracy, adding that healthy competition, which the PDP would have brought to the polls was lacking. Noting that good governance requires that the opposition keeps the party in power in check to ensure that they bring out the best. He prayed that all political parties experiencing internal problems, not only PDP would reconcile themselves in order to give healthy competition in further elections. He appealed to voters to remain peaceful in other not to reverse during and after the elections, in order not distort the fragile peace in the state. He expressed optimism that the candidate of the APC in Mangu, noting that expectations were high expectations.
In Kanke LGA, stakeholders of the APC were out at their various units in solidarity with their candidate Hon Henry Jan Gotip. A Governorship Aspirant in their APC, Comptroller David Victor Dimka (Rtd) told journalists at his Kabwir Pada Ward that he was happy that what the people had wanted came to pass. He noted that the high turnout was impressive. He hailed PLASIEC for ensuring that the process was peaceful and orderly. He stressed that he was particularly happy because the foundation of democracy, which is the Local Government was being strengthened by the elections. He noted that he was impressed with the candidature of Hon Henry Jan Gotip, stressing that the turnout shows that he was popular amo g the people of Kanke. Comptroller David Victor Dimka (Rtd) noted that much was expect from Hon Henry, stressing that it would be disappointing if he doesn’t perform. He promised to contribute in ensuring that Hon Henry brings development to the people.
On his part, the candidate of the APC in Kanke, Hon Henry Jan Gotip described the process as peace with a good turnout. He noted that the people were properly mobilized, showing that the party was on ground im. He stressed that he plans to ensure that the people are given inclusiveness, particularly increased participation of youths and women, promising to give the people of Kanke the true definition of local governance.
Member representing Kanke Constituency at the House of Assembly, Hon Walok Philip Goma who was physically excited, stressed that the turn out was good, which reaffirms why he won his polls under the APC. He expressed optimism in the capacity of Hon Henry Jan Gotip to deliver when he emerges. Hon Walok noted that Kanke, which is one of the newest LGAs compared to others, is still laging in development, stressing that the Kanke General Hospital was yet to be maned by a qualified Medical Doctor from the State Government. He pointed out that despite moving a motion on the floor of the house in that regard, nothing has been done. He however expressed hope that things will change with Hon Henry Jan Gotip at the helm of affairs.
