A former Legislator representing Barkin Ladi Constituency from 1999 to 2007 and immediate past Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, Hon. Rufus Bature has emerged the Chairman of the All Progressives Party (APC) in Plateau State following the State Congress which held on Saturday 16th October, 2021 at Crest Hotel Conference Hall Jos, Plateau State.

He emerged as State Chairman of the APC following a consensus by critical stakeholders of the party.
During the congress, Plateau State Governor Rt Hon Simon Bako Lalong disclosed that the All Progressives Congress family in Plateau State remains a beacon of democracy and the hope for the peace, progress and unity of the State and the nation at large.

Governor Lalong stressed that the level of maturity and seamless conduct demonstrated by members clearly shows the strength of the party in the State and the unity of its members.
Governor Lalong added that the peaceful conduct of the State Congress which was through consensus shows how committed the members are in galvanising all differences and working together for the common interest of the party.
Gov. Lalong called on the new State party Executives to work closely with party officials at the Local Government, Ward and Unit levels, while emphasizing the need to carry along all members and stakeholders fairly, in honest and transparency.
Deputy Speaker House of Representatives Idris Wase and other APC Political leaders described the State Congress as yet another successes milestone achieved by the party in the State.

They stressed that the successful congress clearly shows that the APC remains the biggest party in Plateau State and has demonstrated capacity for victories in future elections. They called on members and stakeholders to unite in reconciliation and patience, while giving maximum support the newly elected party EXCO to deliver on their mandate.
Speaking on behalf of the newly elected State Exco, Chairman-elect Hon. Rufus Bature expressed appreciation to the members and leaders of the party for electing them.
He noted that their election which was conducted through consensus is a pointer to the fact that the party has metamorphosed while making strides in inclusive governance.
Bature specifically appreciated Governor Simon Lalong for giving Plateau State leadership which has made the APC more acceptable among Plateau people, stressing that the party Executives will support him and give all members level playing ground for aspirants.
The election was conducted by the APC State Congress Committee set up by the national body and witnessed by INEC. The new State Executive Committee has 36 Members
