The AIG Mustapha Daura has told journalists that the House of Assembly Complex will remain closed until further notice, pending when the lawmakers are able to find a solutions to the current crisis rocking the House of Assembly. He made this position known at the end of a reconciliatory meeting he had convened in order to find solution to the leadership crisis rocking the Plateau State House of Assembly which seems to be subsisting despite attempts to pacify warring factions in the House.
The reconciliation meeting called on Friday evening by the AIG in charge of Zone Four, comprising Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa State commands, Mustapha Dandaura failed to produced any agreement.
Rt Hon Abok Ayuba and eleven other lawmakers were the first to arrive the Police officers mess, Jos venue of the meeting at about 3:15pm before the newly posted Commissioner of Police, CP Bartholomew Nnamdi Onyeka came in.
Rt Yakubu Sanda and eleven other lawmakers came in 20 minutes later before the AIG arrived to commence proceedings. Journalists were however ordered out.
The meeting came to an about an hour later, both factions emerged and addressed waiting reporters in turns.
First to address journalists was Rt Hon. Abok Ayuba who commended the AIG for convening the meeting but quickly expressed that nothing had changed, stressing that he still remained s Speaker.
Rt Hon Abok noted that while himself and his colleagues were open to peaceful resolution of the current feud, but quickly pointed out that from all indications due process was not followed, stressing that “the Constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria should be respected“
Rt Hon. Abok informed that all his security details have been withdrawn. In his own words “…I don’t have security now so I’m going into hiding“
On his part, Rt. Hon Yakubu Sanda, expressed excitement seeing his colleagues again, while also insisting that “there is no meaningful development that can take place without peace”
Rt. Hon. Sanda also claimed to be the legitimate Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, while also extending an olive branch to the six members that were reportedly suspended by his faction, adding that “if they feel remorse about that action, we are ready to welcome them back”,
AIG Dandaura said the House of Assembly Complex will remain sealed until the lawmakers are able to iron out their differences.
He said this is the first time all parties were meeting since that problem started, he expressed happiness all the warring factions have expressed their own opinions, they have been told that it should not be the end. He also informed that the factions were told to go back to their various locations to convene another meeting.
The AIG revealed that the Police is willing to re-open the assembly if and only when the two sides present a workable solution to the present stalemate.
AIG Danduara advised the lawmakers to quickly resolve their differences so that legislative business can resume at the house.
He assured the lawmakers that as a professional law enforcement agency, they will remain apolitical and neutral in handling the crisis.
The leadership tussle in the house started on Thursday 28th October when about 8 out of the 24 lawmakers reportedly showed up early in the morning and reportedly Impeached the Speaker, Nuhu Abok and purportedly replaced him with Hon. Yakubu Sanda
