Myths & Misconceptions about COVID-19 Vaccines empowered by many factors, free access to the internet ~ Dr Daniel Meshak

A Lecturer and Medical expert Dr Daniel Meshak has said that the myths and misconceptions about COVID-19 vaccines are empowered by a number of factors, coupled with the free access to the internet in the information era which allows for swift dissemination of information. He made this know during a special COVID-19 awareness program with the topic “Myths and Misconceptions about COVID-19 Vaccines” sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation and CITAD and supported by Comrade Friday Bako on KT 103.9 FM on Wednesday 26th January 2022.

The Consultant Family Physician & Public Health Expert at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) He stressed that the non regulation of social media has allowed people to sit in their comfort zones and send out false information despite efforts to fight fakenews.

Dr Daniel Meshak while reacting to some myths the stories that COVID-19 vaccines give miocardaitis (the inflammation of the muscles around the heart) is untrue.

Dr Meshak noted that it may be possible that the person may have already been suffering from such issues knowingly or unknowingly before the vaccine were administered.

He stressed that such allegations have been investigated by the WHO and others reputable organization and have been found to be false.

While responding to another question on whether the vaccines have the capacity to infect, he noted that the COVID-19 vaccines can not give anyone the COVID-19 virus, stressing that the vaccines do not have the potential to transmit the virus.  He pointed out that though the vaccines do not give 100%, it reduces the effect of the virus on vaccinated persons.
