Operation Safe Haven hands over Recovered 517 Weapons to National Center for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons

The Military Special Task Force code named ‘Operation Safe Haven’ has recovered small arms and light weapons numbering five hundred and seventeen (517). This was disclosed in a ceremony organized by the Commander Operation Safe Haven/GOC 3 – Division, Major General IS Ali at the Headquarters of Operation Safe Haven in Jos, where the recovered weapons were handed over to the North Central Coordinator of the National Center for the Control of all Arms and Light Weapons Major General H. I Bature (Rtd) on Thursday 21th April 2022.

While addressing journalsist at the Headquarters, Operation Safe Haven in Jos, the Plateau State Capital, Major General IS Ali attribute the recover to the operational success recorded by joint efforts by officers and men of Operation Safe Haven. According to General Ali, the weapons recovered comprise of 40 automatic weapons and 477 locally fabricated firearms. The automatic weapons include 26 AK 47 rifles, , 1 FN rifle, 2 Barretta rifles, 3 G3 rifles, 6 Barretta pistols, 1 Harris Burg pistol and 1 SMG.

The locally fabricated weapons comprised of 183 locally fabricated rifles, 163 Dane guns, 102 locally fabricated pistols and 19 locally fabricated SMG. Others include 6 single barrel guns and 1 pump action. The weapons were on display and before being handed over to the National Center for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.

General IS Ali commended officers and men of Operation Safe Haven for their commitment and resilience which has led to hug successes recorded in curtailing criminal activities within the operational area. He used the opportunity to appreciate the appreciate law abiding citizens while also urging them to volunteer any useful/actionable information to help ensure the Operation Safe Haven is able to perform its responsibilities optimally.

While receiving the weapons recovered, the North Central Coordinator of the National Center for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, Major General H.I Bature (Rtd) thanked the military and other sister agencies for their efforts in curbing criminality and the proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons. He called on the general public to collaborate with security agencies especially that small arms and light weapons especially are the electioneering activities intensify.
