Group calls on President Buhari to order EFCC/ICPC to arrest Former HYPREP Boss Prof Phillip Shekwolo, Vow to block Abuja international Airport road

A coalition of anti-Cortuption civil Society and Youth based Organizations have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to order anti graft agencies to immediately investigation alleged financial matters of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) under the former Project Director Prof Philip Shekwolo.

This was disclosed in a press text during a press conference held by the group in Abuja the Federal Capital Territory. The group vowed to also embark on a one Million-Man-March to offices of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences (ICPC) and block Airport Road in Abuja if until their demands are met.

The group also called for the immediate arrest of the former Project Director of HYPREP, Prof Phillip Shekwolo over serious infractions of various level of Corruption amounting to more than $200 million dollars of the Ogoni cleanup fund.

The Press text which was signed by one of the Coalition Partners, Comrade Umar Faruk (President of the Northern Youth Initiative for Peace and Good Governance) revealed that “…the corruption at HYPREP stink to high heaven, very unfortunate and insist that the intention is a deliberate ploy to destroy President Buhari outstanding legacy of Cleaning up Ogoni Land and Niger Delta which will be a big win for his Government”.

The group recalled that previous administrations neglected the South South Region, including people from the Region, who refuse to carryout the Cleaning up, but President Buhari, a Northerner chose to do it. They stressed that persons like the Former HYPREP Project Director wants to blackmail and sobotaged the Project.

According to the group, Information reaching them from the Agency and Stakeholders has it that the monumental corruption has stalled most of the remediation and Water projects in the Agency. They described it as sheer wickedness, stressing that they want the projects to continue so it can bring succour to the vulnerable People of Ogoniland that have suffered so much for so long.

In closing in their own words, “We call on true Nigerians to support this noble cause. This Protest March is our Patriotic duties to help Citizens and Govt come together to save the Nation from enemies of Nigeria.”
