Amb John Pofi says Gun-Order to civilians in Zamfara an indictment, Indication of Total Collapse of Security

The National Coordinator, Prayer Force Network, Ambassador John Pofi has lamented the recent order by the Governor of Zamfara State Bello Matawalle directing citizens to take up arms in to defend themselves. According to him, the action is a vindication of his continuous outcry over what he described as a total collapse of Nigeria’s Security architecture, especially under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ambassador Pofi made this know in a statement he personally issued to this medium via his social media handle. Amb Pofi noted that the gun order by Governor Matawale was not just a mere verbal vituperation but has been backed up by a committee and the committee has printed forms for prospective gun buyers.

He saluted the courage of the the Zamfara State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara for coming up straight about how the State Government tried to pay off bandits following series of negotiations in order to allow citizens live in peace and to also allow farmers return to their farms, which failed, leaving the government no choice than to encourage citizens to take up arms. According to Amb Pofi, this situation is “…not only an indictment of the security agencies but the total collapse of the security architecture and the ‘inebtitudness’ of a purported sovereign state to guaranty the safety of its citizens.”.

Ambassador Pofi noted that Governor Matawalle is not the first Governor to tell citizens to take up arms and defend themselves, stressing that he worry is that if of were the Governor of Benue State that gave the order, the Federal Government would have quickly castigated and lambasted him because of the “…nepotistic…” Leadership style of President Buhari.

Amb Pofi pointed out that though the Gun order by Governor Matawalle is a noble one, the long term effect, if not properly implemented will mean more gins in the hands of many individuals; noting that the implication is that after bandits have been defeated, people may use the guns against both their perceived and real enemies and in such anarchy, politicians may take advantage and begin to eliminate other political opponents. He stressed that with such, security forces would have lost their monopoly, stressing that if care not taken, the line between the victims and perpetrator will become blurred as society is enmeshed in violence.
