Breaking: Plateau State Police Command demands apology from Shittu Bamaiyi and ‘Generation Next Campaign Council’

The Plateau State Police Command has debunked a recent statement reportedly issued by the Spokesperson of the ‘Generation Next Campaign Council’ Mr Shittu Bamaiyi where he claimed that the Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command, CP Bartholomew N. Onyeka and other heads of security agencies reportedly showered accolades on the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Nentawe Yilwatda.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Plateau State Command, DSP Alfred Alabo and made available to journalists, the Plateau State Police Command denied any such development and asked Mr Shittu Bamaiyi and the group he represents to tender an apology.

The statement reads “The Plateau State Police Command wishes to refute and distance itself from the Press Statement issued forth by the spokesperson of the Generation Next Campaign Council, one Shittu Bamaiyi on governorship candidate of the (APC) political party relating to signing of peace pact recently.
The statement is not only unfounded and misleading but a deliberate attempt to score cheap political points.”

The statement clarified that “The Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command, CP Bartholomew N.Onyeka, psc(+) in his remarks at the Dialogue, Reconciliation and Peace Center in Jos, only expressed his displeasure over the poor turn out of the governorship candidates of Political Parties in the State considering the significance of the event. To ensure full participation in the signing of a peace commitment, the CP requested for a shift of date to enable candidates of other Political Parties make inputs, then he will give his good will remarks before the signing of the pact takes effect.”

Plateau State Police Command then used the opportunity to inform the good people of Plateau State that the CP did not at any time showered encomiums on anybody or any political party at the event.

The statement further posited that “The Commissioner of Police is a professional cop with vast experience and will never soil his hand in such unwholesome practice.
The Plateau Police Command, therefore wants the general public to disregard the statement by Generation Next Campaign Spokesman, Shittu Bamaiyi.”

Calling on Mr. Bamaiyi and the group he represents to tender an apology thus “Mr. Bamaiyi and the group he represents should tender an apology for misleading the public by misinterpreting the Plateau State Police Chief in their obnoxious Press Release which is capable of stirring political rancor in the State.”
