A group of Concerned Berom Youths have kicked against the decision of the BEROM MINISTERS FORUM (BEMFO) to endorse the candidate of the Labour Party for Plateau North Senatorial District, Barrister Gyang Zi.
The group stressed that the recent endorsement by BEMFO is a misadventure and a total deviation from their calling thereby bringing the organization into total disrepute.
The group also expressed concern over the active involvement of the BYM President in amplifying the so-called “endorsement” of the Labour Party Candidate, saying that the BYM president has since abandoned his role of the office and has taken the role of the Campaign Director General of the Labour party Candidate.

The group made this known during a press conference held in Jos the Plateau State capital on Wednesday, 22nd February 2023.
Reading the Press Text signed by Rwas Dagam Buda, Rwas Lawrence Chuwang-Zi Loyak and Rwas Pam Chollom, Mr Mali Samuel Jok stated that the endorsement was an act of desperation and was unacceptable because it is a ploy to create confusion and disunity among the Berom Youths as it has desecrated the reputation of our organization, being that the BYM has remained apolitical over the years.
“We expect our Spiritual leaders to be concerned with their calling not allowing themselves to be used by some desperate politicians. The Berom Elders Forum (BEC) which is the highest decision-making body in the land, though they’re apolitical, they have a duty of playing advisory roles in the land, which we consider eminently qualified to advise the Berom Nation on who to endorse.” he said.
“This is seen in his engagement with the stakeholders of Tudun Wada (Jishe) Communities on Sunday, 19/2/2023 where the BYM President openly announced to them that the Berom Nation has endorsed the candidate of the Labour Party.”.
“The BYM President has also taken the campaign to his CWC where he is making frantic efforts to compel them to endorse his preferred candidate. In a meeting of the CWC chaired by him on Monday, 20/02/23 at BECO Secretariat he practically tried to force members to endorse the Labour Party Candidate which was resisted by the majority.” the statement further reads.
The Concerned Berom Youths went on to state that the relationship between the BYM President and Sen. I.D Gyang whose Senior legislative aide has declared support for in Rim, Riyom LGA and many other places for the Labour Party Senatorial Candidate is an indication that Senator ID Gyang is the invisible hand sponsoring the BYM President into this act of recklessness.
The group further alleged that the BYM President is mobilizing thugs to intimidate the voters into voting for his preferred candidate, a strategy he used in getting himself into office, It went on to call on fellow youths to remain resolute, not to be intimidated, and vote for candidates of their choice in the general election.
The group called on the BYM President to step aside and join politics fully since he has deviated from the mandate of his office.
