2023 International Day of the Boy Child: Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, Plateau State holds Sensitization Road Walk

The Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) Plateau State Chapter has held a sensitization walk to mark the 2023 International Day of the Boy Child. The Event held on Tuesday 16th May 2023 in Jos the Plateau State Capital and was led by Prof Esther Envuladu, the Chairman of the committee for the commemoration.

Commenting on this year’s Theme: Boys and Mental Health” at the event, Prof Envuladu stressed that “the boys also need to be loved and cared for to avoid having violent and abusive men in the society”. Adding that “when you care for the boys, you are also protecting the girls. We advocate a holistic approach to brining up children in the spirit of equality”.

Dr Nana Emeribe the President-Elect of the Association said the Medical Women’s Association is an association of duly qualified female doctors and dentist in Nigeria, adding that their motto is “Healing with the love of a mother”, stressing that is why “…we are out here supporting the boy child because the equilibrium has shifted over the years at the detriment of the boy child. This is a call to pay as much attention to the boys as we do to the girls. Let’s nurture them. So they can Stay away from substance abuse, crime and violence. We want them to grow into economically and socially responsible men”, she noted.

The sensitization walk covered areas such as Secretariat Junction, Hill Station junction, Amadu Bello Way and back to Secretariat Junction among other areas. The event had in attendance Dr Bapiga’an William Audu, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Chairman Plateau State Branch, representation from National Council of Women’s Societies (NCWS) Plateau State, the Nigerian Boys Brigade and well as female Squad of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).

The event climaxed with an appearance on Radio Nigeria Highland 101.5 FM to discuss this year’s Theme: “Boys and Mental Health”.
