Plateau State Government calls for calm as Interim Transition Committee assume office, Police Seal 17 LG Secretariats

The Executive Governor of Plateau State Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has called for calm among citizens follow the resumption of office by Interim Transition Committee Chairmen across the 17 LGAs of the State and the tension it has generated. 

In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Gyang Bere on Thursday 15th June 2023, the Governor appealed to citizens to remain calm and resist any form of provocation, as government is taking lawful steps to return the Local Government system to a sound footing for massive development at the grassroots. 

He urged citizens in the State not to indulge in any unlawful activity that will undermine peace and security in the State. 

The Governor reassures Plateau citizens that security of lives and property remains the topmost priority to his administration as it is the foundation that gives birth to all forms of growth and development. 

He noted that the task of building a united and secured Plateau is a collective one and government is making frantic efforts to address the current happenings at the local government level. 

In a related the development, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has instructed the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Bartholomew N. Onyeka, to seal up all 17 LGA secretariats. This decision stems from the Nigeria Police Force’s constitutional responsibility to maintain peace and order in the state.

In a statement issued by the police public relations officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, on behalf of the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, the force emphasized the commitment of the police force to maintain security and ensure a peaceful environment for all residents.

Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, the Nigeria Police Force on the Plateau refuses to remain idle while potential threats loom over the smooth functioning of the LGAs. Consequently, the sealing up of the secretariats aims to prevent any disruptions and maintain law and order.

The police command issues a stern warning to individuals who may attempt to impede this process or cause confusion at the local government secretariats, as the full force of the law will be brought upon such individuals.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Bartholomew N. Onyeka, expresses gratitude to the people of Plateau State for their continued understanding and urges everyone to engage in lawful activities while prioritizing peace on the Plateau.
