NANS President Apologizes to Nigeria Police, Urges President Tinubu to Sign Police Pension Bill

The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Comrade Umar Barambu has apologized to the Nigerian Police Force over misconceptions generated following their recent meeting with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) concerning the Police Pension Bill.

The apology was tendered by the President of NANS during a Press Conference in Abuja on Friday 16th June 2023. Comrade Barambu said that their meeting with President was misconceived to mean that NANS was opposed to the signing of the Nigerian Police Pension Bill, stressing that they just had a few concerns which according to him have been cleared, hence their call to President Bola Tinubu to sign the Nigerian Police Pension Bill into Law.

In his own words, Comrade Barambu stated that “…this apology has become necessary in other to sustain the strong working relationship that has existed between the Nigerian Police and Nigeria Students for decades. We apologize to the Inspector General of Police, the Officers and Men of the Nigerian Police Force for any misconception that may have arisen as a result of our recent visit to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR)”.

Comrade Barambu highlighted the “…working relationship that has existed between the Nigerian Police and Nigerian Students over the years which has produced successive cordiality between the Force and NANS, hence that relationship should not be tempered with for the good of Nigerian Students”.

Comrade Barambu added that NANS and the Nigerian Police Force ara partners in progress and proponents of democracy, hence the welfare of Police Officers should be guaranteed through the signing of the Nigerian Police Pension Bill.

Comrade Barambu concluded by saying that “NANS therefore endorses the signing of the Nigerian Police Pension Board Bill into Law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to guarantee the welfare of officers of the force after retirement”.
