A 24 hour curfew has been declared in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau with effect from 18th June, 2023. According to a statement issued by the Interim Management Committee Chairman of Mangu LGA, Hon Markus Artu and made available to journalists in Jos on Sunday 18th June 2023, it reads that “As such there will be no vehicular movement of any sort.”.
Furthermore, the the statement stresses that all movement on motorcycles have also been banned until further notice, adding that “Only Security personnel and workers on essential duty will be allowed to move.”.
This is coming hours after reports of attacks in some communities in B/Ladi LGA of the State. Scores were reportedly killed, thousands displaced and property destroyed in the area.
While reacting to the attack, the Governor of Plateau State In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere on Sunday 18th June 2023, he charged security agencies to consider the redeployment of more personnel to the communities that are under attack to prevent further destruction of lives and properties.
The Governor used the opportunity to appeal to security agencies to remain neutral and refrain from meddling into the local politics of the State which according to him is outside their purview.
Governor Mutfwang reiterated the commitment of his administration to work with the existing security apparatus at the federal level, using multifaceted approaches to secure innocent communities who have been under invasion by the bandits.
