Plateau APC Crisis: Dariye, Lalong Camps Face-off, no clear stance State Ministerial Nominee

Factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State have traded blames of anti-party, as well as accused themselves of plans to suspend some members of the party. This has lead to statements by both stakeholders, support groups and supporters for or against the two major factions of the party in Plateau State. The trading of words is either for or against the Former Governor Simon Lalong led faction.

There was palpable tension as the All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Plateau met with aggrieved members on Thursday 6th July 2023 gave a face-off opportunity to both factions of the party in the State to vent their grievances.

While the Former Governor Simon Lalong led Former Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Idris Maje, Rt Hon Yusuf Gagdi, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, Pam Botmang among others on the one hand; one time Governor of the State and two-time Senator Representing Plateau Central at the National Assembly, Joshua Dariye led Senator Nora Dadut, Senator Hezekiah Dimka, Former Minister of State, Science and Technology and Women Affairs Minister Dame Pauline Tallen, Former Member Representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency at the National Assembly Hon Lumumba Day Adeh and other prominent members.

This medium reports that the meeting created tension and confusion that lasted seven hours, with the Lalong Camp trading words with the Dariye camp over the outcome of the 2023 General Elections in the State in which the APC lost the Governorship Election, Plateau North and South Senatorial Elections, 5 House of Representatives Seats and only managed to win the 7 out of the 24 Constituency seats at the 10th State Assembly.

On Monday 20th March 2023, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang was declared winner of the Gubernatorial Elections in the State after pulling majority of the lawful votes announced by independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He was subsequently sworn-in as Executive Governor of Plateau State along with his Deputy Josephine Piyo as Deputy Governor of Plateau State.

Former Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong used the opportunity to seek for forgiveness of the APC Members in the State, while appealing to all and sundry to tolerate him if he has offended them while in office, stressing that he too has forgiven anyone who offended him.

He praised members of the National Assembly under the Platform of the APC for conducting themselves maturely and for falling in line with the mainstream National politics after loosing out of the leadership tussle of the 10th National Assembly.

As at the time of filing this report, it was not immediately clear who will make the list for consideration from ministerial appointment from Plateau State and there was no clear decision if anyone was going to be suspended for alleged anti-party activities.
