The Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Kanke Local Government Council, Hon Shikir Nuhu Caleb has said that in order to maximize the local economic potentials of Kanke LGA, a Microfinance Bank is set to be established in the locality.
In a statement issued by the Special Assistant to the Chairman on Media & Protocol Tea Gomos and made available to this medium on Wednesday 12th July 2023, it reads “To maximise the huge potentials of the economy through the instrumentality of local commerce, Kanke Local Government is working on having in place a microfinance institution in the area to tap and mobilise home resources for rural growth and development.”

“To this end, the Transition Committee Chairman, Hon Caleb Nuhu Shikir has commenced strategic sessions with high profile contacts towards having a Microfinance Bank in the LGA.”
The Transition Chairman, who until his recent appointment, was the Executive Secretary/CEO of Microfinance Banks in Nigeria, was part a high profile delegation that visited the Central Bank of Nigeria Deputy Governor – Financial Systems Stability (FSS) and the MD/CEO of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Company (NDIC) at their Corporate offices in Abuja.
The meeting was held in order to review the current happenings within the Microfinance Banking subsector.
The TIC Chairman used the opportunity to make high level contacts to drive home an opportunity of setting up a Microfinance Bank within Kanke LGA in order to support the financial services of the economically active citizens in the Local Government Area and it’s environs.
While briefing newsmen after the meeting, Shikir expressed readiness to put all machineries in place to ensure that the LGA has a standing financial institution during his stay in office as one of his legacies which according to him will be private- sector driven.
The Chairman noted that he has identified the absence of a financial institution as one of the major challenges of economic activities within Kanke and its environs over the years and is ever ready to change the narrative.
He stressed that the presence of a financial institution in the LGA will help boost the economic life and businesses of the citizens within the Local Government Area.
