The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has reiterated the commitment of his administration to revamp the Social Sector of state. This according to him is the reason his administration has committed time and energy in coming up with modalities to strengthen the Health Sector which according to him is critical to Plateau State.

Governor Mutfwang made this disclosure on Monday 24th July 2023 when he received the leadership and members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Plateau State chapter who were at New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos on a courtesy visit.
Leading the entourage of veterans, serving medical Doctors and members of the State Officers Committee of the NMA, the Chairman of NMA Plateau State, Dr William Bapigaan Audu in his opening address thanked the governor for granting them audience and for also appointing Medical doctors to serve in strategic positions in his administration, stressing that the association is still expectant of more appointments in the nearest futures.

He urged the Governor to upgrade the Plateau State Specialist Hospital in order to strengthen training and retraining of doctors in various fields of medicine. He also asked for the revamping of general hospitals across the State for to serve as a ready training ground for house officers and others in the State.
The NMA Chairman Plateau State also asked the Governor to look in possible increase in the health coverage of the Plateau State Contributory Health Management Agency (PLASCHEMA) as a social palliative to mitigate the impact of the subsidy removal on citizens.

Dr William also called on the Governor of Plateau State to expedite action to facilitate the smooth takeoff of the Medical School at the Plateau State University Bokkos in order to provide proper training of a ready workforce to the health sector of the State.

Dr William used the opportunity again to thank the Governor for giving proper attention to the welfare of doctors in the State, while also pleading for fenced, secured and habitable living quarters for medical staff of across the state.

The Chairman also asked for a place for doctors within the Joint Negotiation Council for strategic reasons. Dr William drew the attention of the Governor to an ongoing litigation instituted by doctors against the Management of the Plateau State University Bokkos over the exclusion of Professors of Medicine from the selection process that produced Vice Chancellors for the University. He urged the Governor to intervene in order to bring the litigation to an end.
While responding, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang appreciated the efforts of doctors in the state who deployed to Mangu LGA to offer their support to surviving victims in the wake of the unfortunate killings of hundreds and displacement of thousands in the locality by armed men.


He promised to ensure that the medical training of the Plateau State University Bokkos takes off as soon as possible. He urged the doctors to use their contacts abroad to help strengthen the Health sector in Plateau State.
Governor Mutfwang also informed that his administration is setting up a diaspora desk in order to harness expertise and resources from Plateau indigenes abroad for the betterment of Plateau people. The governor further promised to work with NMA Plateau State closely in the course of his tenure.
