HRH Dr Selky Kile Torughedi hosted by UK based Trumpet Media Group, Councilors Hilaria Asumu and Erinma Bell in Manchester, hail his Intellectual struggle for development of the Niger Delta region



His Royal Highness, Dr Selky Kile Torughedi, the Eyewei the 5th of Azuzuama in Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa State was hosted on Saturday 29th July, 2023 by UK Based Trumpet Media Group led by Chantelle Tindal, Northwest Head of the Organization and some serving councilors Hilaria Asumu and Erinma Bell in Manchester, United Kingdom.



This was disclosed by HRH Dr Selky Kile Torughedi through his social media handle shortly after the meeting. Northwest Head of the Trumpet Media Group, Chantelle Tindal particularly appreciated HRH Dr Selky for his role in advocating for freedom and equality back in Nigeria, adding that “…we need more people in the world who will fight for equality for people, and I believe you are doing great”.

HRH Dr Selky was also commended by Councilor Hilaria Asumu representing Walked South Ward and Councilor Erinma Bell representing Moss Side Ward for touring the United Kingdom in order to change the narrative of what the world perceives about the conflict and the people in the Niger Delta, noting that his visit to Nigerians in diaspora in order to correct the wrong narratives is commendable.

HRH Dr Selky highlighted his Intellectual struggle for the emancipation of his people which discourages the use of arms, stressing that the struggle was nolonger violent but through the acquisition of education which he has personally demonstrated through his educational foundation which has lifted many young people out of the creeks and has moulded them into better people in the society.



HRH Dr Selky emphasized the importance of education in human capital development, adding that the only way to permanently change the narrative image about the people of the Niger Delta, which have been stereotyped across the world as ‘Militants’, requires that everyone embraces education. He
urged the councilors to encourage our girls back home to go to school so that they can become useful and productive members of the society.

While thanking them for hosting him and listening to the motivation of his intellectual struggle, HRH Dr Selky Kile Torughedi encouraged the councilors to continue to represent and project a good image for Nigeria as representatives of Nigerians in the UK. HRH Dr Selky concluded by extending his readiness to partner with them in promoting their advocacy for girl-education.

HRH Dr Selky Kile Torughedi is a Philanthropist, Freedom Fighter and a man of peace fighting for political and economic freedom for his people. He was among the first set of freedom fighters who accepted the amnesty program introduced by Late President Umar Musa Yar’adua while he was in office in 2008. He is the President of Ex-agitators Forum advocating for the use education for the emancipation of the people of the Niger Delta. His sterling leadership led to his selection and coronation as, the Eyewei 5th, King of Azuzuama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

Councilor Hilaria Asumu is a Nigerian born politician based in the UK, who has been involved in various community service initiatives particularly in the healthcare sector, setting up her charity, WSH BME Kidney Network, raising awareness about kidney disease, organ donation, and health inequalities affecting Africans and other under-represented white communities in the UK.

After surviving Kidney Failure through a kidney transplant in 2018, The Nigerian-born politician said she was also building a free dialysis centre in Edo State to treat people who cannot afford the expensive dialysis treatment as part of her commitments to community empowerment.

Councilor Erinma Bell, also known as Professor Erinma Bell MBE is a peace activist recognised for her work tackling gun crime in Moss Side and Longsight. Fourteen years ago Erinma and her husband Raymond witnessed a close friend being gunned down in front of them. Shocked by what they saw, they set up CARISMA (Community Alliance for Renewal, Inner South Manchester Area) to give young people positive alternatives to street and gun crime. At its peak in 2007/2008, gun crime in Greater Manchester reached a total of 146 shootings, many of which occurred in the Moss Side and Longsight areas of southern Manchester.

CARISMA has now become part of Chrysalis – a family support centre which helps migrant families. Erinma works as part of an inspirational network of community leaders and volunteers active across south Manchester, working towards a socially inclusive community.
