Mangu TIC Chairman Hon. Markus Artu Engages Education Secretary, NUT On Improved Public Schools Standards

As Part of efforts to improve the standard of public schools within the council area, the Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Mangu Local Government Council, Hon. Markus Artu on Tuesday 22nd August, 2023 interacted with the Education Secretary of Mangu LGA, Julie Joseph and staff of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) in the council ahead of school resumption.

The Interface took place when the Mangu Education Secretary Julie Jospeh and NUT Leaderhip paid a courtesy call on the Chairman in his office in Mangu. The TIC Chairman, Hon Markus Artu used the opportunity to intimate them of Plateau State Government readiness to Support Teachers in the state to resume their activities after a long crisis that affected the Education of pupils and students within the council area and also assured them of prompt payment of salaries in order to ensure compliance of the directive given by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

Hon. Artu stressed, that the education of every child was fundamental to the building of a strong, vibrant and great nation and hence called on the teachers to assist the government to improve the standard of education in Plateau State at large.

The Mangu TIC Chairman also told the Education Secretary and NUT Staff that Governor Mutfwang had already taken decisive steps towards improving the standard of education, welfare of teachers and the security of the learning environment on the Plateau, so that people do not hurriedly send their children to private schools.

Earlier, in their separate remarks,  Education Secretary of Mangu, Julie Joseph while speaking during the visit Congratulated the TIC Chairman over his appointment and achievements within a short period of time and assured him of teachers’ continues Commitment to strive towards building and equiping the next Generation of Leaders for a brighter future and prosperity.

On his part, the Mangu NUT Chairman Comrade Renkat Yabak hinted the TIC Chairman of the successes recorded in the inclusion of Primary School Teachers in the state Government Scheme before the outbreak of the unfortunate security challenge in Mangu.

Comrade Yabak also disclosed that there is a regular promotion of promotable teachers in the state, implementation of elongation of career progression for graduate primary school teachers from grade level 15 to grade 16 like their counterparts in public service and many more.

Until recently, Mangu Local Government area of Plateau State was known for peace, commercial activities and Farming. Mangu has been very Peaceful before the unfortunate attacks in some communities within the Council areas which claimed many lives, led to the destruction of property and rendered many people homeless, thereby affecting the education of pupils in the LGA.
