Governor Mutfwang received by Jubilant Crowd, Optimistic of Supreme Court Victory

It was another moment of joyous expression for the people of Plateau State who turned out in their numbers at the Yakubu Gowon Airport Jos to receive the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barrister Caleb Mutfwang on Saturday 25th November 2023.

The governor’s return is significant, especially after the Appeal Court sacked all National and State Assembly Members Elected under the platform his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Governor was also not spared as the same panel which sacked all National Assembly Members Elected under the PDP sacked him as well.

While it was the terminal court for the National and State Assembly Members of the PDP, the governor has a chance to prove his case which many party supporters have described as a miscarriage of justice, for a pre-election matter to be used as a ground for the nullification of elections in Plateau State. Recall that the Governorship Elections Tribunal in Jos had upheld his election, before the appeallate court did otherwise.

The governor while addressing jubilant supporters who thronged the airport thanked the people of Plateau State for entrusting him with their mandate, adding that the recent Appeal Court Judgments was just but a temporary set back. The Governor also said that despite the set back at the appellate court, he remained optimistic that the Supreme Court will do justice to his case.

In his own words “We bare no grudge against anyone and we are confident in the judiciary, despite all that has happened, we are confident in the Judiciary…”. He encouraged supporters not to engage in evil talk, adding that there was no need to reply anyone who meant evil for Plateau. He encouraged the people to remain peaceful and calm. He pleaded with the people to remain together in united and steadfast in prayers for the state.

In addition to the thousands of supporters, those on ground to receive the governor include Deputy Governor of Plateau State Mrs Josephine Piyo, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly Rt Hon Dewan Gabriel Kudanbena, House of Civil Service Rahauta Dakok, Secretary to the Government of Plateau State Arch Samuel Nanchang Jatau, Honorable Commissioners, Transition Committee Chairmen, other government appointees, State and LG Party EXCO and stakeholders.
