The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kassim Shettima has said that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will ensure that the perpetrators of the Christmas Eve killings in Bokkos and B/Ladi LGAs of Plateau State are brought to book.
The Vice President made this known in the Bokkos Mini Stadium, Bokkos LGA of Plateau State on Wednesday 27th December 2023 when he paid a condolence visit to the Government and People of Plateau State. Recall that on Sunday December 24th 2024, over 20 communities were attacked leading to the loss of 148 lives who were confirmed dead by the Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Bokkos LGA Monday Kassa.

While giving his goodwill message Vice President Shettima while consoling those who love their beloved ones added that “We will harness all our resources to bring all those responsible to Justice”.
He added that while it was true that government might have failed the people, the administration of President Tinubu was however ready to ensure that it never happen. In his own words Vice President Shettima stressed that “…though it is true that we failed you in the time of need, this government is here to give you Justice”.

In his remark, Governor of Plateau State Caleb Mannaseh appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and especially Vice President Kassim Shettima for abandoning other State functions to come to Bokkos following the Governor’s visit to President Tinubu over the incident.
Governor Mutfwang stressed the need for unity among politicians in the State. The Governor invited former governors Joshua Dariye and Simon Lalong with him to the podium where he asked for the forgiveness of Plateau people on behalf of the politicians in the State and pledged that they will henceforth work together in the interest of Plateau State. He added that anywhere the solution for the security challenges in Plateau State were, they will jointly chase and bring them home.
The Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Bokkos LGA Hon Monday Kassa gave an update of the situation at the event. According to him 25 communities were attacked, 148 persons were confirmed dead, with over 1400 houses burnt down.
In a related development, the Vice President Kassim Shettima has commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for acknowledging Former Governors Sen Simon Lalong and Sen Joshua Dariye in Bokkos while sueing for unity in the interest of Plateau State. Governor while making his condolence message to the people of Bokkos. He made this known during a brief stakeholders meeting held at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Jos. The event had in attendance Religious, Traditional and Political leaders across faiths and party lines. He urged Plateau people to unite stressing that there is no way there will be development without peace and there can’t be peace without development.

The Vice President was accompanied by National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher. G Musa, General Officer Commanding 3 Division/Commander Operation Safe Haven Major General AE Abubakar, while Political appointees in Plateau State accompanied Governor Mutfwang.
