In a peaceful and serene atmosphere, the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Dewan Gabriel Kudanbena has said that the leadership of the State Assembly has decided to suspend the resumption of Plenary of the house, following the receipt of a court injunction asking the house to stay-execution.
Rt Hon Dewan made this know at the Old Government House Rayfield, Jos, shortly after an executive session with the other seven members of the house. Even though the Speaker did not disclose the content of the injunction, he however stressed that consequently, the house will maintain the current eight members of the house pending determination of the decision by the Judiciary which is saddled with the responsibility of interpreting the law.

Reacting to the development, the 16 PDP lawmakers who were present at the venue of the house plenary said that they would abide by the decision communicated to them by the Rt Hon Speaker. Speaking on behalf of the 16 PDP Lawmakers, Hon Ishaku Maren said that as law abiding lawmakers, they were not lawbreakers, hence will wait for the outcome of the legal process. “We are satisfied and convinced with the position of the Rt Hon Speaker. As you are aware we are law abiding citizens of this country and this state. We are lawmakers and not supposed to be lawbreaker. And as you can see we coordinate ourselves, we are harmonious in our approach and we are cordial. And by that we agree absolutely with the position of the leadership of the Plateau State House of Assembly and we abide by that” he said.
When asked their next line of action, Hon Maren reacted by stressing in his own words that “it is a legal issue, and we will square it out there”.

Shortly after, the former speaker, Rt Hon Moses Sule was seen in company of the other 15 members addressing supporters on the outcome and their position. They called on their supporters to remain calm, peaceful and law abiding as the legal process takes its course.
The was heavy security presence at the old government house but everything was done peacefully and orderly from the address by the Speaker flanked by the remaining 7 members, as well as the arrival and departure of the 16 PDP lawmakers. The APC lawmakers returned by the Court of Appeal however failed to show up at the chambers of the old government house which was the venue where Plenary was to resume today Tuesday 23rd January 2024.
