The Ag. National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum has led members of the National Working Committee of the party on a condolence visit to Governor Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang over the recent security situation in Mangu which let to the loss of lives and destruction of property, including worship centers in Mangu town within the last 72 hours.
During the visit at the Government House Little Rayfield on Thursday 25th January 2024, Damagum said that Governor Mutfwang has demonstrated that Plateau people have made the right choice by voting him in as Governor, with the way he has handled the situation with maturity. He prayed that God will grant the Governor the ability to find solutions to the situation during his tenure.
Ambassador Damagum urged the Federal Government to focus morethan ever before on the security situation in the country, which according to him has gotten worse. He urged security agencies to have sincerity of purpose and be more proactive and not reactive, adding that they know that the situation has been ongoing before the advent of the new administration in the State, hence anything short of giving total commitment to the security of lives and property is unacceptable. He stressed that this should be their focus to ensure that the security situation all over the country improves.
He also used the opportunity to congratulate the Governor over his victory at the Supreme Court, adding that he believes that development will come to the people of Plateau State just as the former PDP Governors have done.
He also used the opportunity extended the appreciation of the leadership of the party to her Pioneer National Chairman, Late Chief Solomon Lar for the laying a solid foundation for the PDP which made it possible for the party to have ruled Nigeria for 16 years. He prayed that God will give the party and Nigeria leaders who feel the pains of Nigerians and are sympathetic to their progress.
He lamented that when he came to Plateau today, he was expecting to see massive development but was shocked to see that only the projects the PDP administration led by Former Governor Jang initiated were standing in the State, stressing that the 8 years of APC government in Plateau State was a complete disaster.
While responding, Governor Caleb Mutfwang thanked the NWC of the PDP for their show of solidarity and love over the situation. He also thanked the NWC for supporting the party in Plateau State throughout the legal travails which ended in victory for the PDP in the State at the Supreme Court.
The Governor also added that the PDP has been vindicated with the Supreme Court judgement which has laid to rest the question of structure which has placed the party in a very dicey situation. He said that the PDP Headquarters has also been making efforts even with the February 3rd Rerun Elections, which the party expects to participate in.
In a related development, the Ag. National Chairman of the PDP Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum has called on the people of Plateau State to thank God that the Governor Caleb Mutfwang won at the Supreme Court and asked them to support his administration in order to deliver the expected durable development in the coming days. Damagum made this known while speaking to Journalists on his visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
He encouraged the PDP Family to what happened at the Court of Appeal as an act of God, stressing that they voted the PDP and the party won, but their mandates were shortchanged because of the corruption in the country.
