The Attacks in Plateau are not Political ~ Honorable Commissioner for Information Musa Ashom

Following the recent resumption of attacks by armed men in communities in Mangu LGA of Plateau State which snowballed into open hostilities that engulfed Mangu town in the last 72 hours resulting into the loss of lives and property including places of worship, many theories have come up with suggestions as to the reasons why Mangu town which has never experienced any form of crisis is now in the eye of the storm.

The Honorable Commissioner for Information and Communications, Plateau State, Musa Ibrahim Ashoms while reacting to questions over the situation said that the insinuations that the attacks were “mismanaged politics crisis” in the State is misleading and doesn’t tell to story position of the matter. He said that morethan 90% of the members of the APC in Plateau State were in PDP and that anytime they were dissatisfied with their party they crossed over to another party and nothing more. “In Plateau our political crisis have never led to the mass killings of women and children in this magnitude” he added.

The Hon Ashoms made this known when he appeared on Channels Television’s politics and current affairs program ‘Lunch Hour Politics’ to discuss Plateau Security issues on Thursday 25th January 2024. Hon Ashoms noted that it was wrong for anyone to think that the conflict was politically motivated stressing that is was a case of terrorism “Ethnic cleansing, land grabbing and annihilation” in the State.

He called for the establishment of State Police so that communities will have the capacity to defend themselves and prevent these attacks from recurring. Recall that Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State had placed a 24 hour curfew in Mangu, following the outbreak of violence in Mangu town which led the to loss of lives and destruction of property, including places of worship.
