The Plateau Progressives Movement has said that they have preference for Chief Amos Gizo to replace the seat of the former Minister for Labour and Productivity, now Senator Simon Bako Lalong in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet. The group appealed to President Tinubu to consider credibility and integrity, as well as hard work in the ministerial slot replacement for Plateau State.
In a statement signed by the group’s leadership, Song Danjuma and Alh. Iliyasu Zakari, Chairman and Secretary respectively and made available to this medium in Jos on Friday 26th January 2024, the note said that Chief Amos Gizo, season politician who hails from Kanam LGA, Plateau Central Zone is one of the Coordinators of Asiwaju for President 2023.
According to the statement, Gizo was Asiwaju’s political Coordinator since the era of Alliance for Democracy (A.D) days when the President decamped to ACD, Gizo effectively used his media outfit, the City Watch Magazine for electioneering campaigns that led to the ACD’s popularity.
As a front member of the Action Congress (AC), Gizo deserves overwhelming recognition for his positive contribution at the fore front of the formation of ACN. The group urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint Gizo, given his pedigree and committment to the restoration of peace in Plateau State. They called on the President to also recall Chief Gizo’s roles at the convention in Benin that birthed the party.
The statement stressed that Chief Amos Gizo was the Chairman of the ACN in Plateau State and the National Coordinating Chairman of ACN Chairmen in Nigeria, adding that he was the Coordinator/DG to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu for President 2011, Ribadu is the current National Security Adviser (NSA) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The statement also noted that Gizo was National Patron/BOT Chairman of many support groups of Asiwaju for President 2023. He has remained with Asiwaju since he joined his group 22 years ago. He is matured, Educated, he was a teacher from the Primary, Secondary and University levels.
“Chief Gizo was an elected member of the National Assembly that produced the Constitution of this country and has been a founding member of various political formations that gave birth to the third and fourth republics”.
“He was the Senatorial candidate for the then Plateau South of the larger Plateau with Nasarawa state. He was equally the senatorial candidate for GDM and PDP in the build up to this present dispensation. He was the Governorship Candidate for NDP and an Aspirant of 2023 Governorship in APC. With the current situation on the Plateau, he is the most appropriate to be appointed Minister because his support base cuts across Party lines, he is an APC founding member with a lot of respect amongst the PDP, Labour Party and other parties” they said.
“He has the requisite experience and capacity to strengthen the APC in the state and as an elder who is well rooted in politics he will be able to bring all the factions together to form a strong united front. He is a respecter of justice and status quo so there will be no parallel leadership clash between him and the leadership of the party in Plateau State or even Governor Caleb Mutfwang as witnessed between Governor Dariye and Sango and Governor Lalong and Dalung. He is a team player that can work with Governor Mutfwang to attract the Federal presence to Plateau State”.
“He is Nationally and internationally connected and can attract investors to the state and the nation at large.
Most importantly He is liked by both the Moslems and Christians despite his untouchable likeness for his people and Plateau State”.
“He will be a good tool to be used for the unity and peace of the Plateau.
These are few reasons that his candidature is most appropriate at this trial moments. This is why we are calling on all lovers of Plateau to support the call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint Chief Amos Gizo as Minister, to serve as replacement for Senator Simon Lalong” they concluded.
Why Plateau Should place confidence in Chief Amos Gizo as Plateau’s Ministerial replacement
