Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have re-echoed the need for the Federal Government to expedite action in creating State Police, which according to the governors would change the tide against insecurity across the country.
The Governors made this known through the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, His Excellency Senator Bala Muhammad during a condolence visit on the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.

Governor Muhammad led Adamawa State Governor Umaru Fintiri, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Enugu State Governor Peter Mba, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on behalf of the other PDP Governors who couldn’t make it to condole with their Plateau State counterpart over the recent degeneration of security in Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi within the last one month which claimed lives and property.

They noted that state governors know the nooks and crannies of their state, hence with State police within their power, they could effectively confront and contain the situation better than what the federally controlled security forces have done, considering their “inadequacies and limitations”. They urges the Federal Government to allow them have State Police which will guarantee good governance which according to them means safety and security of lives and property.

They sympathized with the government and people of Plateau State over the sad series of attacks by terrorists while also assuring the state of their support through their trying times. The governors donated N100 Million Naira to support humanitarian efforts to communities while extending the heartfelt condolences to the families of those affect by the sad incidents.

Responding on behalf of the Government and People of State, Plateau State Governor His Excellency Barrister Caleb Mutfwang welcomed the Governors and expressed deep appreciation for the visit and solidarity despite their very busy schedule all the way from the South-South, South-East, South-West and North-East.

Governor Mutfwang noted that the security situation was not peculiar to Plateau but was a national problem. He attributed that deterioration and aggravation of the security situation to the neglect of the last administration. He said that his administration was trying hard to build inter and intra community harmony, stressing that nobody can do it alone; only in unity across ethnic and religious divides can trust be rebuilt in order defeat insecurity across the country.

The event was attended by the Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, Arch Samuel Jatau, Head of Civil Service, Members of the State Executive Council, other appointees, State PDP Chairman and his EXCO etc.
